Federal initiative supporting LGBTQ+ older adult research and programs. Relevant for veterans of the AIDS crisis, the Stonewall generation, and elders who lived underground identities most of their lives. Long-term care ombudsman services exist in every state — ask specifically about LGBTQ+ resident protections. Many LGBTQ+ elders went back into the closet when they entered nursing homes; SAGE-trained facilities are growing but still rare. Free service; donations support but never gate access.
